While saying this is the death of the old “text” style captchas may be going a bit far. I think we definitely need to start taking further action when it comes to controlling spam. While for the most part, its ironic that i spend my time developing bots that often need to bypass captcha/anti-spam systems. No one likes seeing their forum destroyed.
Whether animations will fully take over text captcha’s, i dont think so. Because smartphones often need to login while on the move, and they often cant process flash movies, or in some cases, their internet speed is too slow to even think of viewing it. But its something to look out for in the future.
