Ad.ly Analytics Released

Today i noticed on ad.ly that they had released their very own Twitter analytics. (Check em out here!). Well, kinda. I think its just a early look into what they are doing, but still it looked pretty good in some parts. Definitely the way forward. So lets analyze my account @pyrogenicmedia :

adlyengaged

To be honest, i think im lucky to get even 47% engagement. Since 1/5 of all Phoenix Desktop users add me automatically, i do end up with a tonne of BS accounts following me. The fact that i have 2.6k that are just complete BS is a bit of a laugh. But i don’t take it too seriously. What was interesting though, is that after reading how they determine if your follower is engaged, i read this : “simply are following way too many people and have a polluted stream“. Meaning that if the people who are following me are following too many other people, that means they are disengaged. I don’t think this is quite right because with the introduction of lists, it means that your homepage stream is not the only place you read tweets.

You know, i was going to do a full post on my twitter account and the stats they had on it. But other then the engagement factor, the rest of the stats are actually pretty junk worthy. Essentially you have Male/Female, Geo Location, Time of Day that i tweet. Not really useful for me, maybe for an advertiser i guess. Its probably the heading of “Understand your followers & become a better Twitter publisher“, that made me think they would be useful for me.

But the thing is, the value is in it for the advertiser.  Its not in joe average looking up stats on an account, but the fact that advertisers can now see whether the majority of your audience is male or female and make advertisements tailored to that audience. More then that, its taking the power out of the people who churn followers day in and day out. While i think their engagement stats still need a few tweakings, (There is no way i have 2.3k engaged followers), the fact that you can see geo-locations is probably a god send to advertisers.

With a system like this evolving everyday, you can expect to see smaller “real” twitterers get more offers on their accounts. I know people who have “marketing” twitter accounts and got no offers. Then they add in their own personal ones (Not recommend, your friends probably wont appreciate it), and they get the offers pouring in. All because there is real activity and real followers on that account.

So get tweeting! And if you havnt already, join up to ad.ly and start earning.
